Dan Brown - The Lost Symbol

On 14/10/2009, Dan Brown´s new book was published: "The Lost Symbol". Even his books "Sacrilege" and "Illuminati" caused a stir, skillfully interweaving facts with fiction. Yet what can be found in his new novel and which of it is true?

Statements about noetics found in the novel

The Lost Symbol

The novel explains that noetics are new as a scientific discipline, but basically one of world’s oldest sciences in general. Noetics deal with the studying of human thinking. Yet the old ones had a better understanding of “thinking” than the people of today, the reason being that back then, thinking was the only technology the old ones had at their disposal. This technology, the human mind, was studied with great commitment by the old philosophers. In the Vedas, there is talk about the flow of spiritual energy. The Pistis, Sophia, describes universal consciousness.

According to them, man has enormous spiritual power at his disposal. Now science shows that accessing this power is a physical process. The human brain can evoke superhuman powers. Our mind is able to create an energy that can transform matter.

Are we divine?

One of the core statements of the novel is that the cornerstone of the Washington Monument is the Bible. In addition, it is said that the Bible is full of scientific information, while the challenge is to understand the cryptic parables. The hypothesis that God’s Temple is not a building, but our body and that man himself is god’s body is used as an example. God is real, a spiritual energy that penetrates everything. Man was created from the image of spiritual energy. And that never referred to our body. It is not us who are supposed to wait for god. God is waiting for us.

We ourselves can be creators who control reality. This, however, requires focus and firm belief. Some people are more or less gifted in that respect than others.

Scientific examples

The first example that is used is the weighing of the soul. During that process, scientists try to show that a dying person’s weight decreases. Such attempts have indeed taken place. However, no significant differences in weight were ascertained. It therefore remains to be proven that the soul has a weight of its own.

A further example that was used was that the power of thoughts had the ability to heal cancer. There are many known cases of sudden recovery, in particular with people who managed to change their attitude towards life, and that way, their thoughts. Unfortunately, this is not scientifically approved either.

Another important core statement: The power of human thought exponentially increases the more people share the same thought. Two human beings together are stronger than several individual persons.

Conclusion

In his book, Dan Brown outlines an abundance of subjects of noetics. Proof provided in the book does not exist in reality or is not accepted by mainstream science.

Dan Brown envisions an age of enlightenment in which we are able to harness the limitless human potential. In his book, he provides some true facts and one can only hope that he is right.

On the next page, we are going to deal with the incredible things that have indeed been scientifically proven.
